Our Experience
Last year I took my son to the aquarium while the mermaids were there. I was excited to go myself. The Little Mermaid movie had been released the year after I was born and I had Little Mermaid sheets and a lamp as a kid.
It was easy for us to go in since my son already had the free Pre-K Kid’s Adventure Pass to the aquarium and I had a membership. We just made a reservation online beforehand. There was no additional fee to see the mermaids.
Once inside we found that there were three spots at the aquarium where we could see mermaids. We first went into the Stingray Club to pet the stingrays. The name had been changed to the Mermaid Beach Club. There we saw a brave mermaid lounging in the water at the center of the stingrays.
After this we went into a separate room where people could take pictures with a mermaid sitting on a seashell. Then we asked a staff member and were directed to a third location. Here we could see into one of the large aquarium tanks. We could see a mermaid swimming along happily under water. She was engaging with the people and doing tricks such as flips. In this area there was also an option to buy mermaid themed souvenirs. There was also Under the Sea lemonade available for purchase that consisted of blue raspberry lemonade with aquatic fruit gummies.
I was impressed by how the mermaids were throughout the aquarium in different areas. The mermaid theme was in different spots of the aquarium. For example at Dippin Dots they had handspun mermaid cotton candy dippin dots. We were also able to make mermaid bracelets for free near the location of the hippos. While we were there we also had fun visiting some other sections of the aquarium to see things such as the poison dart frogs, axolotl and penguins.
Should I take my child here?
If your child is a fan of mermaids then I would definitely take them. It would be a magical experience for them.
How to get excited for your visit?
Take your child swimming and have them pretend to be mermaids. These mermaid dive toys can also help to improve their swimming skills.
Watch The Little Mermaid on Disney+. Rock out to the song Under the Sea on the car ride over. Bring along a reusable water bottle to the aquarium like this Thermos Funtainer that my daughter likes that has Ariel on it.
Want to get a toy for your child as a present? We have this Little People portable castle that has Ariel and Cinderella. We also have the older model of this Little People carriage for Ariel that plays Under the Sea. My son loves how it is musical.
If your child gets cold easily get them this Mermaid tail blanket so they can live out their mermaid fantasies. If they are older they may also like building this mermaid terrarium at home.
