The unlimited indoor attractions that were open for this event were the bumper cars, Fun-a-Whirl, FunTron Battle Conduct (laser tag), XD Theatre, Air Shot and Go Karts.

What other things would adults enjoy at this event?

There was a DJ located near the Boardwalk Cafe and indoor rides. During the event we attended, there was also a 360 photo booth. This was located near the DJ. We danced in the middle of the stand while holding photo props. A phone filmed us while it was circling around our platform. Afterwards we were able to have the video sent to our phone. There was also a raffle during the event as well.

Is food and drink available?

Yes! There was food available at the Piston Cafe where there was seating as well. There was also food available for purchase at the Boardwalk Cafe. There was seating in front of this as well. There were adult beverages available to purchase in front of the Piston Cafe as well as near the Laser Tag. The Shark Bite drink actually had a shark with a bloody mouth inside of it.

What things related to the theme were at this event?

The attire of many of the event guests was related to Mardi Gras. Our group wore Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold and green to the event. We also had masks and crowns. While some guests wore regular clothing others had Mardi Gras themed shirts, beads and dresses.

There were Mardi Gras related props at the 360 degree photo booth. There was also street lighting and string lights near the DJ similar to that seen in New Orleans. We were too late to get beignets since the kitchen had already closed. They also had a special of 3 mini beignets for $4.99 in the Piston Cafe.

What are tips to know before you attend a Funplex After Dark event?

  1. Dress for the theme. This will make for some fun pictures.

  2. Purchase any food or drinks you desire before 11:30. Even though the event ended at 1:00 am the food and drink purchases seemed to end around midnight to 12:15 am. Bringing cash will make your purchases cheaper than if you pay with a credit card.

  3. Get there at 9:00 pm. This will ensure that you will be able to do the most activities that are possible within the time frame of the event.

  4. Bring your ID. Since this event is only for people over the age of 21 your ID will be checked at the door.

  5. Wear socks and clothes that are easy to move around in. This will be helpful if you are planning to do things such as bowling and laser tag.

  6. Purchase tickets beforehand to ensure that they are not sold out.

Our Experience at Funplex After Dark: Mardi Gras Edition

We attended this event with two of our friends. It was a blast! My last time going to the Funplex was in 2006 during my senior year of high school. I was excited to go back here once again as an adult.

I was first drawn to this event due to the Mardi Gras theme. We had visited New Orleans a couple years ago and loved it there. I was excited to learn about a Mardi Gras themed event in New Jersey as these are usually rare.

We arrived a few minutes before 9:00 pm. There was already a line that had formed outside of the door. The crowd was mostly made up of people in their twenties and thirties. We noticed people were coming from as far as Atlantic City and Philadelphia due to the unique aspect of the event as well as the attractions inside the Funplex.

After we entered we noticed people were bowling in lanes to our right. There were also shoes included. It was great that an hour of bowling was included for this event as it can often be pricey to bowl. After this we went to scope out the Funplex. There were lots of arcade games in the main room. After we walked through the hallway to our right we saw rides, a DJ and more arcade games.

We started out by going to the Laser Tag since there was a short line. They put us on teams of eight people. There was a red and a green team. Participants got 500 points for every accurate hit and they lost 25 points for every time they got shot. This laser tag was easy to play since it was all on one level and there was no need to reload. Our red team won! I ended up getting the highest score on both teams by getting 25,750 points. See if you can beat my score when you go to the Funplex!

After this we headed to the Dark Ride. This was one where we sat in seats that moved around and air blew on us. There were some jump scares as we shot at the zombies. The only issue with the ride is that our 3d glasses seemed to be foggy so it was kind of hard to see some of the zombies.

Our next stop was the go karts. They were lots of fun. Their speed increased after the first lap. It was tough to try and pass the other racers. Since we were not allowed to bump into other karts we figured our next stop should be the bumper cars.

Bumper Cars Funplex Mount Laurel

The line for the bumper cars was close to the DJ so many of us were dancing while we waited. There were also a good number of people dancing right in front of the DJ at this point. DJ K.O.D. did a great job with the music. There were a lot of throwbacks mixed with newer music that were getting everyone grooving.

The bumper cars were great. They could ram into each other with a lot of speed but I still didn’t feel any whiplash or anything in my neck. Our group had a lot of fun crashing them into each other.

We had not tried any of the arcade games yet so we figured those would be fun to try next. We found some motorcycle games that you could play without using up any of the credits on our cards. I liked that air blew on you as you raced and you could race against a friend as well.

Since there were four of us we then sat on the hippos to play the large Hungry, Hungry Hippos game next. My friend won the game so she had the chance to try and get even more balls with her hippo after our game had ended.

We also got competitive in the basketball arcade games and in air hockey. By this time it was now one o’clock in the morning and it was time to head out. The night was a blast. There were so many activities that were included that we did not have time to try all of them. We look forward to returning and trying out even more things at the Funplex.

Where can you stay while visiting the Funplex?

La Quinta by Wyndham is located right next to the Funplex. This would be the ideal spot to stay since you could just walk over to the hotel. We noticed many people taking advantage of this fact after the event. The hotel also has an indoor pool and breakfast is included.

The Hawthorne Extended Stay by Wyndham is also attached to La Quinta so this would be another great option.

If you want to see other options in the area you can take a look at this map below:

Are there other things to do in the area?

We went to Wawa afterwards to split a hoagie. It seemed like this was the Funplex after party spot since many people went there since it is located right by the Funplex. If you need to stop somewhere for dinner before this event the food at Pho Xinh in Mount Laurel is tasty and comes out promptly. If you stay the night at a hotel and need something to do the next day try the Burlington County Troll Trek. It is a great way to check out some other places in the area.

When is the next Funplex 21+ After Dark event?

The next event will be April After Dark. It will be on April 11th, 2025 from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. This event will have a ‘90s theme. These are outfit ideas for the event: graphic t-shirt, overalls, black choker necklace, plaid shirt, denim jacket or a fanny pack. It will definitely be a fun event with a lot of nostalgic music. Get your tickets while they are still available!

If you’re still in the ‘90s mindset after the April event at the Funplex, you may also want to check out the band Nine Deeez Nite at one of their upcoming shows.
