Where should I stay?
I highly recommend the Generator Stockholm and the Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport Terminal. Learn more about each of them below. These are the places where we stayed on our own trip.
Generator Stockholm
We checked into our hostel which was the Generator Stockholm. It was located in a great area of Stockholm known as Norrmalm. This is an area in the city center with business and commerce. There were multiple restaurants of various cuisines in the area and it was not far from some places to shop as well as a 7-Eleven. It was only about a fifteen minute walk from the Stockholm Central Station with our luggage.
It was great since you enter and they have things you need such as bike rentals and locks for sale. The lobby area was very inviting with multiple outlets, a Foosball table and multiple large tables for people to sit at together. The hostel also contained lockers you could use to store your luggage for a fee if you arrived early for check-in or if you check out and want to leave your luggage there for longer until your flight. There was an elevator to take you to the next floor up to the lockers. It was a little cramped with only enough space for three people if everyone had luggage.
We did not go to the attached Hilma Stockholm since we had young kids but it looked like many people in their twenties and thirties were having dinner there in the evenings. It was not noisy enough that it hindered our sleep even when we were staying on the floor above it. Generally there were a mix of different people staying there. On our trip it seemed as though over half were in their twenties and thirties. Most of the travelers were traveling as single travelers or in groups. There were some other families we encountered there as well that were similar to ours.
Lockers at the Generator
The lockers were easy to use and a great way to store our luggage until our room was ready. You could reserve one on their machine with your credit card and they were very spacious. We only needed two for our luggage. On our last day we went to reserve lockers again upon check-out. We were delighted to find that reservation for the lockers was actually free that day due to a promotion that they were having.
Food at the Generator
I would definitely recommend prepaying for their breakfast when you check-in. For 95 SEK you get to pick a breakfast menu item and also get unlimited drinks. For us this was a great value since we had multiple drinks including coffee, juice and milk.
The breakfast food was very tasty as well. My son and I loved their Swedish pancakes with whipped cream, jam and powdered sugar (these were also available as vegan pancakes). Their bagel with cream cheese provencal, cold-smoked salmon, salad and herbs was my daughter’s favorite and my husband loved their fried eggs with bacon, toast, salad, baked tomato and chives. One night we also ordered from their late night menu and we had an incredible burger as well. See more pictures of their food here: Dining and Souvenir Shopping on the Cheap in Stockholm.
Our Room at the Generator
Our room in the hostel was great. It was very spacious with plenty of space for our luggage. We had booked a private room with a private bathroom. As you entered there was a table that also had places to hang your clothes above it on the right and on the left side there were two bunk beds with a curtain. When you walked in further there was a bathroom and cubby spaces on your left, hooks to hang clothes and two twin beds on your right. The room had great room darkening curtains that helped you to sleep and there were multiple outlets and lights near the beds.

The Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport Terminal
On our last day our flight was leaving at 10 am so we decided we would book an airport hotel for the night before. This was the best decision ever! We arrived at the Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport Terminal around 10:30 pm on a weeknight. We checked in at the desk but there were also machines available for self check-in.
This hotel immediately blew us away. It was a newer hotel with lots of intriguing styles of seating in the lobby, a bar area, a large dining area for its breakfast, a meeting room and more. There was also free coffee and tea available at the front desk and water at the bar. A person at the front desk also offered coloring books with small colored pencil sets to my kids.
I was hungry so I was able to purchase a small pasta that they warmed up for me. After that I played ping pong for a while in the lobby with the kids. Then we went into the kids room. There they had toys that were more suited for babies and preschoolers. My kids loved doing the climbing wall multiple times. Our only regret was not arriving at the hotel even earlier so that we could have had some extra fun. The cost was only 80 USD for a night which was an incredible value for its location and the included very large breakfast.
Our Room at The Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport Terminal
The room was excellent with comfortable beds, places to hang clothes, a clean bathroom and extra covers. Amazingly I could not hear any planes through the walls while I was sleeping. It was fun to see planes landing and taking off through the window. It had a very cozy vibe so it was easy to fall asleep. We were able to set a wake-up alarm on the tv to help us get up in the morning. I also liked the fact that there was an extra duvet and towels in a drawer in our room.
The Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport Terminal included Breakfast
When we awoke and went down I was blown away by this hotel breakfast. It was the largest buffet assortment of breakfast and lunch style foods that I had ever seen with lots of fresh ingredients and fresh bread as well. From an allergy standpoint it was great since they said to ask them about anything. There was also a designated gluten free section. I could not take any great pictures of it since there was just so much food it would not fit in even four pictures but if you love breakfast you will definitely be elated by your stay here. The breakfast hours also start extra early so you can likely still get something to eat even if you have a very early flight.
Getting to the Stockholm Arlanda Airport from the Hotel
We noticed there were lots of people on flight crews staying at this hotel so we figured this hotel was a good choice from the get-go. The front desk actually showed upcoming flights and gates on a screen it which was really helpful. Check out was very simple. You just had to put your room key into a box. To get to Terminal 5 we just had to go out and walk towards the left side of the hotel. We then crossed the street to go into a small door. It was easy to see other airline employees walking to the same place along with us. The prime location makes this place a must to stay in if you have an early flight. Check out my other articles here: Sweden. Any new articles I write that are related to Stockholm will go onto this page.
Overall we were happy with both of our stays. It was great that they were relatively inexpensive compared to the costs of many other places in Stockholm. Staying in Stockholm does not need to break your budget. These are both places that I would recommend to any travelers.
