Aristocats the Movie
When I was a kid Aristocats was one of my favorite movies. The songs were all so good that you could not help singing them for days afterwards. The movie is about a family of aristocats living in Paris. This includes the mother, Duchess, as well as her three kittens. Their names are Toulouse, Berlioz and Marie. The story centers around what happens when they are thrown into dangerous situations that they have not encountered before. Most of the movie is about their journey home. The movie is also filled with plenty of entertaining animals such as Thomas O’Malley the alley cat. The kids were in hysterics over the antics of the bloodhound named Napoleon and basset hound named Lafayette.
I rewatched the movie after seeing the play. Upon watching it I realized that the voice of Thomas O’Malley was done by Phil Harris (also Baloo in The Jungle Book). The voice of Sterling Holloway was used for Roquefort the mouse (and he also voiced Kaa in The Jungle Book).
Aristocats Kids
We really enjoyed seeing this show at Music Mountain Theatre. Our tickets were for Row D so we had great seats. The theater was not huge so I am guessing there is not a bad seat in the house.
Before being seated kids had the option of purchasing egg shakers from the concession stand that they could use during “Everybody Wants to be a Cat.” The song was reprised a few times during the show so soon everyone knew the lyrics. The “Skala og arpeggio” was also sung beautifully in the show by Gillian Blais, Penelope Stern-Kushnier and Florence Jones. The show included some famous lines such as: “Wait a minute! I’m the leader. I’ll say when we can go.”
I liked how the dogs were changed from the movie into being a whole crew of dogs instead complete with military wear. Logan Hamilton was very convincing in his role as Roquefort the mouse. My daughter loved the butler Edgar the most in the show played by Caelan Costello. He stayed in character really well throughout the play. Amelia was played by Emily McGettigan and Abigail was played by Annabelle McGettigan. They made a hilarious pair of giggling geese complete with Mother Goose style outfits.
The entire cast did a great job on the show. The stage crew had all the props out promptly. We were impressed by the detailed set for the house of the Aristocats. The show was inexpensive and a great length for younger kids since it was an hour long. The only issue during the show was that it seemed some mics were not turned on until partway through a characters line. We had gone to the first show of this play so I am sure this was likely resolved in later shows.
