Best Places to see Springtime Flowers Bloom in New Jersey

Spring is the time of year when everyone is ready to burst out of their homes after spending more time indoors during the winter months. One of our favorite ways to enjoy the changing of the seasons is by seeing different flowers blooming. From tulips to daffodils, these are some of our favorite places that we have seen flowers blooming in New Jersey this time of year.

Free Places to see Flowers Blooming

Sayen Gardens in Hamilton Township, NJ

Sayen Gardens in Hamilton is my favorite spot to visit in the Spring. When my daughter was younger we met our homeschool group there for a lovely outdoor art class amongst the blossoms. Another time we visited to relax on the beautiful grounds by doing some outdoor yoga. The landscape is filled with bright blooms and buds of a variety of different flowers. The setting is like something out of one of Monet’s gardens at Giverny. During a springtime visit it is easy to spot flowers like hyacinths, azaleas and rhododendrons throughout the gardens. A popular festival held here is the Azalea Festival which is usually on Mother’s Day weekend. Upon our visit one year they were taking free pictures of mothers with their kids.

Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown, NJ

One weekend my husband took the kids to Deep Cut Gardens for an event and they loved the gardens. They enjoyed seeing the roses blooming and going through the area like a courtyard. They had fun walking on the maze-like pathways as well. The place resembles gardens that would be seen outside of a castle.

Princeton University in Princeton, NJ

The grounds of the Princeton University campus are gorgeous. In the Spring it is glorious to see all the cherry and pear blossoms in the trees around campus. There are also numerous flowers that can be spotted around various University buildings. There is also a new app that also can tell you information about the art installations as well while you tour the grounds. More information about the app can be found here: Princeton Campus Map.

Fernbrook Farms in Chesterfield, NJ

While not generally open to the public, people can visit during the spring plant sale that is usually in the month of May. We frequent the grounds of Fernbrook Farms a lot after my son’s spring homeschool classes there. Beautiful flowers bloom each week in front of the Inn and on the grounds behind it. Kids especially love to run on the path in the Sundial Garden which also has flowers blooming all around you. Other ways people can visit are by joining its CSA, doing programs through its Environmental Education Center or by holding a private event there.

Downtown Mount Holly, NJ

We love doing the Egg-streme Egg Hunt in Mount Holly around Easter. As part of the hunt we walk through the entire downtown. It is a great time of year to walk through the downtown. There are flowers in lots of locations around town and some of the trees have petals falling on you as you walk as well.

Places that have a Fee to see Flowers Blooming

Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge, NJ

Did you know that you don’t have to go to the Netherlands to see a field full of tulips? Holland Ridge Farms is trying to bring a taste of the Netherlands to the US with its colorful blooms. It is a fun place to pick tulips. Visitors can also see their horses and many photo props such as a bike or a Dutch shoe clog. Our kids loved running between the rows of colorful tulips that dotted the landscape. They usually start blooming in April and last until sometime in May.

Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton Township, NJ

The Grounds for Sculpture is a unique place to visit that is close to the Hamilton Train Station. There are a myriad of sculptures around the grounds and in the Spring the landscape is also dotted with colorful flowers as well. It is a great place to have an outdoor lunch and to spend the day. It is a great place to visit with young kids since it is easy to navigate with a stroller. Walking through the grounds is like walking through a series of Impressionist paintings.

Rat’s is a restaurant there that gives a unique dining experience in New Jersey with its scenic views. It is located at the Grounds for Sculpture and you can access a section of the sculpture garden while dining there. I have visited there twice myself and it is truly a memorable experience that should not be missed.

These are all of our favorite places to see flowers blooming in the Spring. It is always good to remember to stop and smell the roses.
