Escape the Heat with Regal’s Summer Movie Express

This summer has been unbearably hot and it seems like we are constantly in a heat wave. Luckily Regal has a cheap way to enjoy some cool air while watching a movie indoors.

What is the Regal Summer Movie Express?

It is a program that Regal usually offers each summer where families can enjoy a family movie for $1 per ticket. The value is incredible. It is like the prices did a rewind back to the 1970’s! Be sure to try seeing a movie with this program this summer at a participating theater near you.

Are the tickets actually $1?

When I purchased tickets they ended up being $2.14 each. There was a $1 fee and there was 14 cents charged for taxes in New Jersey. This is still an awesome deal.

What are the dates and times that the Regal Summer Movie Express Movies are shown?

The Regal Summer Movie Express Movies are shown every Tuesday and Wednesday at 11 am from June 11th to August 7th in 2024.

Are there any deals on concessions?

Yes! Last week my son and I split a Kids Snack Pack which included a gummy snack, kid sized popcorn and a drink that was $5. There was a nominal charge to upgrade our drink to an ICEE. I saw other moviegoers do an add-on of Dippin’ Dots for the price of $3.

What are your 4 favorite parts of this program?

1) It is cheap.

In the summer kids often are constantly looking for entertainment so finding things that have a low cost is very beneficial.

2) The movies played have already been in theaters.

My kids have actually not seen many movies yet so I like this aspect of it.

Parents can watch movies beforehand or look them up on sites like Common Sense Media to determine if they want to show them to their kids.

3) It is dark and cold inside.

I suffer from migraines that can be triggered by heat and light and I also get overheated easily.

I think this is an awesome program since it is an inexpensive indoor summer activity.

4) Movies offered are great for different ages.

It seems like each week they offer one movie geared towards younger kids and another for older kids.

Often both movie choices are great for families to watch together.

Our Experience Seeing the Movie Curious George

Last year we were talking to friends and realized that our kids were now at an age where their peers were now seeing movies in theaters. At this point they had still not seen even one movie all the way through at home. We do not watch a lot of tv at home. When my daughter was younger we did not have one in our house for two years after moving there since we were watching so infrequently. As a result of this our kids do not have a very long attention span for watching anything on a screen so we were not sure how it would go to take them to see a movie in a theater.

I had remembered hearing about the Regal Summer Movie Express and we thought that would be a good way to try seeing a movie in a theater since it was inexpensive. We figured that this way if they got bored and wanted to leave it would not be a big deal. We found out that the movie Curious George would soon be playing. We figured this would be a hit since the kids always like funny things. The movie was also rated G which is rare for movies nowadays. We went to see it at the Regal Theater in Burlington. We had been looking for butterflies that morning and it was nice to escape into the cool theater.

We ended up not having to worry at all. The whole experience was great! My daughter was laughing all through the movie and my son was wide-eyed and mesmerized. I had listened to Jack Johnson all the time in college while studying, so I really enjoyed the movie soundtrack. Even my husband was laughing at George’s antics. There was nothing that was too scary for the kids in the movie and it was a great family experience for the kids first time going to the movies.

Our Experience Seeing the Movie Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups

Recently I was at the movies with a friend at the Regal Theater in Burlington. It was great since it was so cold I had to wear my fleece jacket which was nice after all of this heat. I saw a flyer for the movies in the Summer Movie Express this year and knew my son would enjoy the Paw Patrol movie.

My daughter was in camp the week that the Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups was playing so this time my son and I went to the movies by ourselves. We had done a hike that morning so were looking forward to some air conditioning. My son was excited for the movie and wore his Paw Patrol T-shirt and sneakers. We headed to Regal Moorestown Mall for this movie. They had added in a second showing of the movie at 11:30 which was great since we were still able to purchase tickets the night beforehand. When we purchased our tickets we were also able to pick where we wanted to sit.

This theater was really nice and clean. We headed to the concessions line and bought a Kids Snack Pack to split for the movie. I was even able to upgrade the drink to an Icee for a nominal fee. I showed the QR code for our tickets to the attendant. The seats were very comfortable oversized recliners that had buttons you could press so that you could put your legs up. The theater was nice and cool.

My son enjoyed the movie a lot and especially loved eating popcorn. His favorite parts in the movie was when they showed how Skye looked as a baby and scenes with the cute Junior Patrollers. There were a few times in the movies that were a little scary but he still enjoyed it. Afterwards we walked around the mall a little bit before leaving. We saw some other people from the movies getting lunch at the food court who had not eaten beforehand.

Both of our experiences watching one of the Regal Summer Movies went well. It was nice that we could vet the movies beforehand and the kids still love to talk about both movies that they watched.

What are educational things you can do with your kids afterwards?

Check to see your kids comprehension by asking them about the sequence of events in the movie. Ask them about events in the movie and if these occurred in the beginning, middle or end of the movie.

Have the kids work on their writing by having them making their own movie theater at home. They can write up a list of movies that are currently playing. They can also make their own Concession Stand with a price list. This can help incorporate some math as well.

If you are learning about time, have the kids write different movie times in digital notation. Ask them to show it to you on a clock or draw a clock with that time.

For the movie part of their movie theater, have them create a movie that they act out for you or you can even record them performing it as well to make a real movie.

What are fun ideas of things I can do with my kids that are related to upcoming movies?

For Sonic the Hedgehog you could do timed races and have a chili cheese dog night.

For Trolls Band Together you could learn an N’Sync Dance Routine or play some Rock Band.

For Lyle, Lyle Crocodile you could listen to Crocodile Rock and have them take a fun bubble bath. You can also teach them the differences between a crocodile and an alligator.

For Sing 2 you could do a karaoke night.

While summer can be fun it can also be hot. If you find the heat is getting to you be sure to escape inside to check out a cheap movie with the Regal Summer Movie Express.
